Anti-Monarchy Stunts in Windsor & Lichfield, Outreach in Edinburgh

Alongside other key events in Republic's calendar in October such as Members Day, local activists and volunteers have been taking to the streets, parks and cities of the UK. Check out the latest Activism Roundup below to find out more and get involved!

Republic Edinburgh Joins Scotland Demands Better March

On Saturday 25th October, the Republic Edinburgh local group brought out their banner and flyers to attend the march organised by Scotland Demands Bettera collective organisation calling for better investment in public services, homes and infrastructure. Local activists from the group attended the march to make it clear that abolishing the monarchy is a part of that change and would free up much-needed money for these improvements.

"I wanted to join a movement which I fervently believe in & wish to support. It was good to publicise the existence of Republic Edinburgh as part of a wider event & I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience." ~ Andrew, Republic Supporter.

The group’s banner was snapped by marchers and passers-by, with lots of visibility at a crucial moment for the campaign.

"The general consensus amongst people was that it's high time the monarchy was consigned to history and replaced by a democratic alternative. We gave out lots of leaflets and as ever the stickers were very popular. I really feel that the tide is turning in our favour." ~ Gillian, Republic Supporter.

Windsor Action Highlights Royal Accountability Crisis

On Tuesday 21st October, a small team of Republic volunteers staged a stunt outside Royal Lodge in Windsor, demanding a full investigation into Andrew's links to Jeffrey Epstein and calling out Charles and William's efforts to shield him.

"I would rather be on a protest than commenting in the silo, and this action was very topical and on an issue which is important to me." ~ Richard, Republic Supporter, Ambassador and Volunteer.

The stunt drew immediate media attention, with press photographers capturing the moment and coverage appearing in multiple outlets days after.

"But for an accident of birth, this individual might have been king. What better advertisement for an elected head of state?" ~ Peter, Republic Supporter and Volunteer.

Following the stunt, a Savanta poll showed support for the monarchy dropping below 50% again for the second time in a year. This scandal highlights how fragile public support is when the royals face scrutiny.

Charles Heckled in Lichfield Over Andrew Scandal

📽 Watch the full video of the confrontation! 📽

With only 3 days notice, the Birmingham/West Midlands local group learned of Charles's visit to Lichfield Cathedral on Monday 27th October. A local supporter stepped up to boldly face the visit, inspired by the heckle stunt in Newmarket earlier this year.

"It was important to take action as during visits by the royals important issues or controversies are pushed aside and ignored. By bringing up the issue of Andrew in such a public manner it once again brings these core problems facing the monarchy into the spotlight." ~ L, Republic Supporter and Heckler.

The action made huge waves across media and was debated on radio, with versions of the video reaching millions online.

"The action was so effective because it was unexpected. I think it goes to show the importance of still going out and protesting even when one is by themselves because it can still make a difference." ~ L, Republic Supporter and Heckler.

These past few weeks show the power of the local activism network. Whether it’s a crowd of hundreds or a solo heckler, every action counts in making an opportunity to impact royal visits.

My huge thanks to everyone who took action this month and so far this year!
