Two London Marches and an Anti-Monarchy Stunt in Devon
September was packed with action with not one but two major marches in London, plus a bold stunt in Devon. Here's how Republic supporters made their voices heard across the country. Feeling inspired? Now’s the time to get involved!
Stop Trump March

On the 18th September, Republic activists joined the Stop Trump demonstration that took place in central London. We had a fantastic new banner out stating that "Corrupt Billionaires are not the answer" as well as messages such as "No Kings Here. No Kings There. No Kings Anywhere".
"This was my second time joining Republic at an action. It was very inspirational to be at this protest and gave me much hope for the future." ~ Rajdeep, Republic Supporter.
Not only was this an important outreach event to be visible and present with lots of potential new supporters and allies, but it also created an opportunity for Republic to add some much needed anti-monarchy analysis to the news story of Trump's state visit, with appearances and quotes on the BBC, The Guardian and GB News!
Dartmoor Stunt

On the 20th September, Republic activists from the Devon and Somerset local group set out on an ambitious mission to target some key locations as part of Republic's Ditch the Duchies campaign. They started the day looking to use the giant NOT MY KING letters (check out the Edinburgh group using them here!) on the moors, however the weather was not on their side...
"The opportunity to protest outside Dartmoor HMP which cost the taxpayer millions each year in rent , is currently closed, and the taxpayer is paying for renovations was too good to miss. And we will try again with the bigger letters on a better weather day!" ~ Jamie, Devon Ambassador.
Despite the weather, the activists got creative and used other placards instead to draw attention to the millions the royals are paid from Duchy land. Not only that, but they managed to get to the Dartmoor Visitor Centre too.

Make Them Pay March

Whilst the Devon group were sneaking placards in front of Dartmoor Prison, other Republic activists gathered in Central London on the same day to take part in the Make Them Pay march, challenging billionaires to be taxed fairly, including those like Charles and the royal family!
Our banner from the Day of Action at the Budget announcement last year made an appearance at this march raising an important message that resonated with many of the organisations taking part as well as the public.
"This was a peaceful, vibrant and inclusive coming together of many likeminded groups. As we marched so many passersby smiled and laughed at our suitably irreverent banner, and taking photos on their phones to hopefully share." ~ Gruf, Republic Supporter.
This march and rally provided many opportunities to meet other campaigns and organisations who sympathise with our cause and would like to take more action to work with Republic. This is exactly why outreach no matter how big or small, is crucial to the success of the anti-monarchy movement and Republic's objectives.
Huge thanks to everyone who took action this month. Want to be featured in the next roundup? Join your local group, get involved, and let’s keep building momentum!
See you on the streets.
