Activists Deliver £4 Billion Invoice to Buckingham Palace

A group of Republic volunteers delivered an invoice to Charles for £4 billion at Buckingham Palace on Saturday 21st June. This stunt was organised to coincide with the release of the annual royal finances highlighting the immense cost to the treasury and public spending at Half a Billion Pounds a year. The group tried to give the invoice to be passed on by police guards at Buckingham Palace, but were instead met with an odd response...
"The police advised us they couldn't take it but suggested sending via DPD!" ~ Fódhla, Republic Volunteer and Board Member.
The stunt did make it into media coverage of the royal finance report being covered by Sky News amongst others - check out the full video of the stunt!
"It's good fun doing these stunts and we are going to be doing many more of them! Lots of really lovely people getting involved" ~ Ray, Republic Volunteer.
Holyrood Sees Protest and Stunt for Royal Week
On Tuesday the 1st July, Republic Edinburgh local group took not just one, but two actions for the start of Royal Week!
To start the day, the group organised an energetic protest for the morning for the arrival of the royals taking part in the Ceremony of the Keys at the palace of Holyroodhouse Palace.
"One of the best things about the Republic demonstration was the support and interaction we got from the public." ~ Gillian, Republic Volunteer.
There was not a royalist in sight for the arrival of the royals for the ceremony of the keys and every other car passing by the protest honked in support. The Edinburgh group have since written to the Lord Provost expressing their intent to continue protesting the event and demanding that the council take constituents’ concerns seriously and reconsider the ceremony’s democratic legitimacy.
"We’ll continue to be loud and visible to these people showing them there is an opposition." ~ Neil, Republic Volunteer.
Then in the afternoon, volunteers came back for the Garden Party, sneaking past the security and garden party goers to unveil huge letters on the hillside spelling out "NOT MY KING". It was clearly visible to those at the party , including the royals as they exited the palace down the stairs into the courtyard. Check out the view of the stunt from inside the party here!
"...it was the biggest and boldest message yet to the royals in Scotland." ~ Alice, Republic Volunteer.
Make sure to get involved with the Republic Edinburgh group if you're in Scotland or nearby!
Leafleting in Bath Filmed by Documentary Makers

Members of the Republic Bristol local group visited Bath on Saturday 29th June to talk to members of the public about abolishing the monarchy and replacing it with an elected head of state. Danni who is the ambassador for the local group helped to organise the outreach action and was also in touch with documentary film makers from ARTE, who have been following Republic's activities for the past year.
"I was surprised by how many people didnt know about the revelations in the Channel 4 Dispatches documentary and how much Charles earns from the NHS to park ambulances. Members of the public were shocked and appalled." ~ Danni, Bristol Ambassador.
Keep an eye out for documentary being released in October, and make sure to join Republic Bristol for further activism coming up!
"Overall, it was a positive experience in Bath and well worth the effort, and strong evidence that we are making a difference." ~ David, Republic Supporter.
Look out for the next activism roundup coming soon showcasing some fantastic outreach events happening this summer.
See you on the streets!
