Anti-monarchy campaigners will be protesting at Trooping the Colour for the second year in a row this weekend.
As 'No Kings' protests break out across the US to coincide with Trump's military parade, the very real king in the UK will face protests of his own.
Campaigners have been sustaining protests at royal events since before the coronation more than two years ago. Just in the past week there were noisy protests in Hexham and Lancaster when Camilla and Charles visited.
Unlike in the US, Trooping the Colour will see Britain's head of state and members of his family dress up in military uniforms and rank that they haven't earned.
Republic has dubbed Charles, William, Edward and Anne the 'Walter Mitty Committee' for play-acting as senior military officers.
Speaking today Graham Smith, Republic's CEO, said:
"US citizens have very real concerns about Trump's actions and his military parade. Here in the UK we have the real deal, a king who dresses up in unearned uniforms and medals and insists on a huge military parade through London."
"Trooping the Colour is the key iconic royal event of the year. From now on there will be protesters there, calling out the event and the monarchy as a superficial cover for a grubby and corrupt institution."
"Charles does not qualify for any of the medals he wears. He has not earned the ranks he wears, he was promoted in all the services as birthday presents from his mum."
"Edward and Anne haven't served a day in the armed forces, yet they too dress up. Their behaviour is an insult to the bravery of our military."
"That's why Republic has hundreds of military veterans within our membership, people who have been willing to defend country, not king."
"Support for the monarchy is falling, and protests will continue at all major royal events until it has been abolished."
