Republic CEO Graham Smith has welcomed news that Thames Valley Police is taking seriously his reporting of Andrew for misconduct in public office.
He has called on the police to act 'without fear or favour' and on Charles to speak directly on air about the mounting allegations against Andrew.
Responding to this afternoon's announcement from the police, Graham Smith said:
"Experience tells me the police are always reluctant to investigate royals. I am cautiously hopeful that that is about to change."
"The statement from Thames Valley Police at least confirms that they have taken my report to them seriously. They must act without fear or favour, going wherever the evidence leads them."
"I have also reported Andrew on suspicion of trafficking offences relating to reports of a girl being sent to stay with Andrew in Royal Lodge in 2010. I have not heard anything to confirm the police are investigating that matter."
"What's needed now is for Charles and William to personally make a statement in front of cameras and journalists. They must state unequivocally that the police should have no concern about investigating members of their family. They must be clear that the police will be free to go wherever the evidence takes them. Charles and William must commit to opening up all royal documents relating to allegations about Andrew going back over the past twenty-five years."
"Clearly there are lots of issues and accusations flying around, including against Charles and William. Only complete disclose and an unfettered investigation will do."
Graham Smith reported Andrew to the police on Monday morning (February 9th) on suspicion of sharing confidential documents with Epstein.
Republic is continuing to pursue its own investigations through lawyers Michelman Robinson, keeping open the option of a private prosecution.
