Republic at Durham Miners Gala 2026

Join Republic on Saturday 11 July 2026 at Durham Miners Gala – the biggest trade union gathering in Europe. At this great celebration of workers’ and community solidarity, attended by many tens of thousands of people, we’ll be spreading republicanism’s positive message of democracy and equality, and raising awareness and recruiting supporters through leafleting.

We’ll have both general Republic leaflets and the new ‘Trade Unionists for a Republic’ leaflet. This is a chance to get our cause on the agenda of the trade union movement, other influential campaigning organisations and representative and politicians, as well as thousands of individuals. The Gala is also a lot of fun! Please come and help if you can – whether you're a trade unionist or not.

Join us to help leaflet in Durham Mark Place, from 10.00am. We’ll then join the parade with Republic flags and banners. We’ll also be running a stall in the tent at Durham Racecourse with leaflets, merch and much more – and need help for that too. Later we’ll head to one of Durham’s many city centre pubs for a drink and a chat.

The Gala is a huge event, so if you’re coming try to help stand out by wearing yellow and bringing your own Republic flags if you have one (we’ll also bring banners and flags!).
