Anti monarchy campaigners have staged a protest inside Amalienborg palace today.

Six campaigners stood in the palace wearing Frederick The Last t-shirts, calling for the abolition of the Danish monarchy.

Speaking for campaign group Republik Nu, Mads Rundstrom said today:

"The Danish monarchy is outdated and undemocratic. It's bad for Denmark and undermines our nation's commitment to democratic values."

"Republik Nu is going to build a stronger campaign to challenge the Danish monarchy, and to challenge Danes to support a republic."

"If Germany, Finland, Iceland, Austria and the Baltic states can choose their heads of state, why not Denmark."

"Over a million Danes want the monarchy gone. We want to see millions more join the demand for abolition."

"It's time we called Frederick the Last."
