The monarchy was hit hard in 2025 and Republic's campaign grows ever stronger

Recent polls saw public support for the monarchy drop below 50%. We are winning - let's stay loud and visible to keep on getting our arguments into the media!

The monarchy is currently facing an unprecedented crisis. Inaction from the royals on Andrew's links with Epstein have cast doubts in the public's mind not only on who knew what and when, but also about the very institution itself.

Not only is public opinion dropping here, but the people of the Commonwealth want to see the back of them, too. Find out more - watch Republic's podcast with Commonwealth Republican activists Arley Gill and Rosalea Hamilton today.

The episode is also available on audio platforms here.

Location - Westminster Abbey

The best vantage spot of Westminster Abbey is United Nations Green, situated directly across from the church.

As with our protests in 2024 and 2025 we will be in this spot again in 2026.

Timings

The protest will start at 12.00pm, with the Royals expected to turn up a couple of hours later as they have done in previous years. The Republic team and volunteers will be setting up from 10.00am onwards, so turn up from then to help get our protest underway!

Travel

There are multiple tube stations that protestors can use to get to the area on the day, such as:

- St James’ Park (0.2mi away, 4 min walk)

- Westminster (0.2mi away, 6 min walk)

- Victoria (0.6mi away, 13 min walk)

Volunteering at the Protest

Our volunteers had a fantastic time at our Commonwealth Day Protest in 2024 and 2025, getting to know and work with other Republic members, supporters and activists.

There is a role for everyone at Republic's protests and events, so if you are interested check out our Commonwealth Day Protest Volunteer page.

This is what people are saying about Republic protests!

Thanks for organising. I went by myself, didn't know anyone. It was really well organised . Obviously the organisers didn't have time to make a point of talking to everyone who turned up but it was really easy to join in. Two trollies full of placards to help ourselves to. Bigger banners unfurled by organisers. I was made to feel really welcome , plenty of people happy to talk and Graham and George were very accessible to ask questions of about the procedure of the day. Also the huge dinosaur was impressive and a great symbol , quite noticeable. A Tyrannosaurus Rex named Chuck The Rex . Quite humourous and suitably belongs in a museum. Anyone wanting to go should not feel out or place.
It was great being with so many interesting people and sharing our thoughts. It made me feel part of the campaign.
I enjoyed talking to other people who felt the same way as me.
I enjoyed doing something for a cause with like-minded people. Good organisation of the protest and coordination of volunteers.
There was a real sense of community - I came alone but felt very welcomed by all!
I enjoyed meeting other Republic members, feeling part of a movement. I was also pleased that the protest was mentioned in the BBC website report of the event.
It was great to hear encouragement from tourists who were anti-monarchy. It's always good to meet up with Republic members I have met before, and those I haven't!
