Anti-monarchy campaigners have slammed Charles for refusing to receive a petition from the Jamaican government regarding the royal family's role in reparations.
 
The Jamaican government were hoping to present a petition to the King this week, requesting reparations of over £7.6 billion in compensation for slavery.
 
Documents uncovered in 2023 by researcher Desirée Baptiste confirmed that Charles's royal ancestors had profited extensively from slavery.
 
Despite this, no member of the royal family has apologised for the monarchy's role in the slave trade.
 
Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith said:
 
"Once again Charles ducks for cover when the issue of slavery and empire is raised."
 
"In 2022 Charles inherited hundreds of millions of pounds from his mother. A lot of that cash had come down the line of monarchs from when they personally invested in and protected the slave trade."
 
"To simply refuse to meet anyone to discuss this issue is unacceptable. For now, he remains the King of Jamaica; he has a responsibility to address these concerns, instead of choosing to go on holiday to Scotland."
 
"Research has shown the royals profited from slavery. Neither him or any other members of the family have formally apologised. Just one word would be a start - sorry."
