Anti-monarchy activists protested Charles' visit to Lancaster today.
The protests reflect the growing discontent with royal involvement in the Duchy of Lancaster — which the royals continue to exploit for their own personal profit.
Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith said:
"When Charles turned up today I challenged him on the £27 million he takes out of the Duchies each year — money that isn't his."
"The Duchies are public property. Charles and William receive the income only because they are monarch and heir — they do not own the Duchies."
"That's why it was so crucial to protest today as Charles visited Lancaster, the namesake of one of these Duchies."
"Schools, local councils and local police will all face huge bills for this visit."
"This is at a time when local services are facing cuts and local people will see their taxes go up."
"It's time to Ditch the Duchies — royal land is our land."
