A new report by local anti-monarchy activists from around the UK has estimated police forces have spent at least £1 million to make the switch to Charles’s new crown logo.

This follows an announcement in February 2024, that with the new monarch comes a change to the official crown logo.

Freedom of Information requests were submitted to every police force in the UK. The costs revealed add up to almost £1 million, with a number of police forces refusing to reveal the information. Extrapolating from the information received puts the total cost well over a million.

Speaking for Republic, CEO Graham Smith said:

“The change to the logo is so minimal it’s easy to miss. Yet the cost of this pointless exercise is running into the millions.”

“The royals keep costing public services more money, yet this change is cosmetic and pointless. Charles could pay for it himself if he really cares that much about the shape of the crown logo.”

“During a cost-of-living crisis and when Charles is avoiding huge tax bills, why is extensive funding being budgeted for something so trivial?”

“It’s no surprise Republic local activists are angry about the waste of local funds. Gloucestershire Police need to save £7 million over the next year, but they’re spending £100,000 to update the crown on their uniforms.”
