On a walkabout in Newmarket today members of the public confronted Charles over the cost of the royals and his claim to millions of pounds of Duchy profits.
He was also asked why he only pays his Highgrove gardeners minimum wage when he receives an income of more than £27m a year.
Charles was in the Suffolk town for an engagement and went out to meet the public on the street.
Locals weren't all excited to see the monarch and instead wanted to challenge his excessive costs and low wages for his staff.
Charles was asked if he thought it was fair the public pay him £27m a year from the Duchy of Lancaster.
One member of the public asked why the royals cost the British taxpayer half a billion pounds per year.
The questions echo Republic's campaign to abolish the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall and have the profits spent on public services and local communities.
Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith reacted to Charles being confronted by the public:
"Lots of people are unhappy with the way the royals are funded. Most people think they cost too much."
"When so many people are struggling with the cost of living, knowing that we pay Charles £27m from Duchy funds and that he pays minimum wage to some of his staff is too much to stomach."
"The root of the problem is the dishonesty of the palace about who owns the Duchies. They are public assets, not private estates."
"With news over the weekend about Highgrove Gardeners being paid minimum wage by the billionaire Charles it's hardly surprising we're seeing more grassroots reaction to his visits."
