Campaigners from the group Republic have called on MPs to halt Prince William’s plan to evict tenants from Duchy land, many of whom are elderly and have young children.
Republic has branded William ‘shameful’ after Duchy eviction notices landed on tenants’ doormats, ordering them to either purchase their properties or leave the Bradninch estate.
William is claiming that he needs to sell the land to fund personal projects, despite his net worth being well above £1 billion.
Research shows conclusively that the Duchy is not William’s private property, raising the question whether William should be selling the land in the first place.
Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith said:
"William is claiming to be on a crusade to 'end homelessness'. Yet he seems happy to evict several families from the Bradninch estate, leaving them, in effect, homeless."
“This shameful move comes after he evicted two families from their homes in Great Windsor Park so he could expand his own private use of that land.”
"Duchy land is not the personal estate of William. It's public land that Parliament has agreed will surrender its profits to the royals. William has no legitimate right to sell off these assets."
"Duchy land is our land. William must not be allowed to evict families to pay for personal projects."
"The government needs to step in before William renders more families homeless with his reckless profiteering."
