Meet the man who challenged Charles.
Charles is an advocate for all sorts of alternative medicines, including homeopathy and coffee enemas. He was keen to befriend Professor Edzard Ernst, the world's first professor of alternative medicine.
That is until Ernst applied scientific inquiry to Charles's favoured tinctures and treatments.
In 2005 Ernst commented to the Times on a report being commissioned by Prince Charles and written by economist Christopher Smallwood. He rubbished the report and what followed appears to have been a concerted effort by Charles to silence one of his most authoritative critics.
BEYOND THE ROYAL HEADLINES is a monthly zoom event that delves into the detail and discusses the issues the royals would rather were forgotten.
Join Republic's CEO and Edzard Ernst as they discuss this sordid episode of royal sabotage of academic inquiry.
You can also order a copy of Edzard's book, Charles, The Alternative Prince, from Republic's shop.
There will a chance to join the discussion and ask questions about what happened and the royals' influence on public policy.
"Ernst believes the power of the royal family has distorted public policy in relation to complementary medicine, and does not plan to let the subject drop." Guardian.
