Anti-monarchy group Republic has welcomed calls from Antigua's prime minister for the country to become a republic.
Gaston Browne made the call during Charles's visit and the monarch's continual refusal to understand or engage with demands for an apology for slavery.
While hiding behind the British government's official stance, Republic has pointed out that Charles owes a personal apology on behalf of his family and personal reparations.

The royals sponsored and profited from the trans-Atlantic slave trade for centuries and much of Charles's billionaire wealth has been inherited down the line from slave-trading British monarchs.
Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith said:
"The royal family is losing support at home and across the globe."
"In the UK we've seen support for the royals dip below 50% a few times since the coronation, while Caribbean nations like Jamaica have already the process of becoming a republic."

"Antigua has sent a powerful signal today, that meagre words of sorrow will not stem the tide of republicanism."
"Charles refusing to apologise for his family's role in the slave trade is shameful."
"The inter-generational poverty in the Caribbean and the inter-generational wealth of the royals are directly linked. Reparations need to come down the pipeline and the royals should be shouldering the bill."
"Republic is currently working on building a new Alliance of Commonwealth Republic Movements. Most Commonwealth nations are republics, it would be great to see all Commonwealth nations become republics."
