Campaigners have repeated calls for the police to launch a criminal investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The call from Republic follows fresh revelations about his 2007 sale of Sunninghill Park.
The property was reportedly sold for £7m more than market value. It’s now been revealed the funds may have come from the proceeds of crime.
Sales of property substantially over the market price raise concerns about possible bribes or money laundering.
Republic has instructed lawyers to investigate and pursue a private prosecution of Andrew and will be looking a range of accusations.
Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith said today:
“This story has been around for some time. Anyone else would have been investigated years ago in the strength of the above price sale.”
“Again and again, Andrew faces accusations of possible corruption and lawbreaking, again and again the police turn a blind eye and refuse to act.”
“This is why Republic has felt compelled to launch a private prosecution, funded by ordinary people who are concerned at the apparent impunity of the royals.”
“Andrew was struggling to sell Sunninghill Park for five years, before a Kazakh oligarch pays £7m above the market value for it. That clearly raises concerns that need investigating.”
