Andrew losing his royal titles is too minor a punishment, campaigners have said.

Anti-monarchy group Republic have been campaigning for Andrew to face a police investigation over allegations of corruption and misconduct in public office.

Earlier today, Republic instructed lawyers to consider a private prosecution against the then-Prince Andrew.

Regardless of tonight's move, Republic are planning to continue with the private prosecution, which has already raised thousands of pounds in crowdfunded legal fees.

Speaking for Republic, Graham Smith said today:

"Removing Andrew's title of 'Prince' isn't enough. It's that simple."

"This is a man who has been accused of sexual assault and corruption. He should be questioned and investigated by the police. This is about justice, not titles."

"He's also being moved from the Royal Lodge to a similarly lavish property in Sandringham."

"How is moving from one mansion to another in any way a punishment?"

"This is an insult to sexual abuse victims and an insult to the public. More needs to be done."
