These are the 6 principles and values which Republic activists should follow:
1. Activists are committed to peaceful, non-violent action to support the aims and objectives of Republic. Actions should be aimed at galvanising those who agree and persuading those who do not.
2. Activists have a shared vision of a world in which the UK has changed the country for good through the abolition of the monarchy. You may disagree about many other aspects of governance, politics, and social life but in this vision you are united in your efforts. Republic believes that our principles and objectives rightly cross political boundaries and is committed to remaining unaffliated to any political party or other political movement. If local activists want to work with other organisations that will advance the aims and objectives of Republic then this should of course be explored.
3. All activists should be able to take part and contribute to local group activities, events and discussions without discrimination of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, disability, sexual orientation, language, religion, political, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Any form of discrimination or abuse between local activists will not be tolerated.
4. Activists and/or Ambassadors should raise any concerns they have about the safe and proper functioning of the group. This means that those taking part in and/or organising the local group do their best to make spaces safe and inclusive, and free from dangerous activities, as well as any criminal activity or content. Republic will intervene where we think that Local Groups are not safe or properly functioning as we have a duty of care as staff members being party to your local group chats, implementing the necessary safeguarding if required.
5. Where activists work together they should respect, value, and support one another and their contributions to republican activism. This means supporting one another as best as possible, making sure to value everyone's contributions, no matter how big or small. You are all volunteers giving your valuable time. We can only abolish the monarchy when we have a strong and supportive base of activists.
6. Activists and local groups are autonomous. Activists and local groups are a vital part of the republican movement and are welcome to use Republic's branding and logo, but are not formally part of Republic Campaign Ltd. If a local group (and the local activists within it) wish to have a formal structure, then that is autonomous and is not part of Republic Campaign Ltd.’s internal structure. Local activists are personally responsible for any data that they hold on local group members and so should take necessary measures to implement the appropriate GDPR measures if applicable. The Republic Protest and Activism team will provide support (financial, operational, logistical) to these Local Activists based on them acting in accordance with the principles and values outlined above.
