Campaign group Republic has branded Prince Charles 'a gift' to the republican cause today following fresh revelations about his political ambitions.
Republic's CEO, Graham Smith said today:
"Charles seems hell-bent on breaking the Britih constitution and interfering in the democratic process. That will lead to conflict that can only end with the abolition of the monarchy."
"Charles is a real danger to British democracy, and a great advert for ending the monarchy and electing our next head of state."
"If Charles speaks up on controversial issues when King he will come into conflict with public opinion and the elected government. That's an intolerable and untenable situation."
"We can avoid that scenario by moving to an election for the Queens successor. If Charles then wants to speak out he can stand for election.
