Supporter Development Officer - Labour for a Republic

2 days a week. One year fixed contract.

Deadline for applications: COB July 19th.

NB: You will be employed by Republic and seconded to Labour for a Republic.

£31,000 pro rata.

While all positions are recruited on merit, Republic and Labour for a Republic are keen to encourage diversity within the team. We have a strong commitment to equal opportunities.

This is your opportunity to play a key role in the campaign for a democratic alternative to the monarchy.

There has never been a better time to get involved with this campaign - a Labour government is likely to be imminent. The accession of Charles to the throne has ushered in a dramatic shift in the nature of the debate. With support for the monarchy in the UK collapsing and Commonwealth countries starting their moves to ditch the Crown, Labour for a Republic is aiming to ramp up the campaign here in the UK.

You will play a key role in coordinating and executing Labour for a Republic's campaign, establishing and building networks of supporters to push for Labour for a Republic's cause.

The role

Your role will include:

  • Develop a network of supporters at all levels within the Labour movement.
  • Compile and maintain a contact database of:
    • CLP Secretaries, L4AR members and ‘sympathetic’ Labour members in each constituency.
    • Labour elected representatives or candidates (at UK and national levels) in each constituency.
    • Key individuals within trade unions, Labour Party affiliates and other Labour-linked organisations (such as University Labour Societies).
    • Members of Labour policy-making forums (at UK and national levels).
    • The above to include an assessment of the individual’s degree of support for L4AR’s aims.
  • Compile data in support of L4AR’s strategy including:
    • Labour policies which ‘fit’ with L4AR’s aims or that L4AR may wish to influence
    • Press opportunities and contacts.
    • Constituency activity including motions, whether stand-alone or as part of a formal policy consultation process.
    • Identification of target constituencies in respect of speaker invites, member recruitment etc.
  • Provide the L4AR Executive with a brief monthly progress summary, to include recommendations as appropriate.

This is a work-from-home position, with work done remotely.

  • An enthusiastic and goal-orientated approach.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to persuade and influence.
  • Ability to work with autonomy and largely unsupervised.
  • Development or operational experience in a political or comparable field.
  • Good knowledge of database management.
  • Ability to plan and organise effectively.
  • Good knowledge of Labour party structures, culture and political dynamics.
  • The ability to handle deadlines and time pressures.
