The succession is here!

The succession is here, and we want to hit our new target of £25,000 over the next few days, so we can plan bigger campaigns in the run up to the coronation.

Let's raise £25,000!

As Charles steps into the role of king, without debate or consent, we need to stop and ask ourselves: Can't we just choose our next head of state?

Polls are showing young people wanting an elected head of state, meaning the succession of King Charles will be a major turning point in the monarchy's history and in the growth of Britain's republican movement.

With the succession now here, Commonwealth countries lining up to ditch the monarchy and the royals struggling to put a foot right, now is the time to step up the campaign.

And the bad news for the royals keeps on coming. Bags of cash for Charles, cash-for-honours accusations, Prince Andrew being bailed out by his mum, so he doesn't have to face court, the disastrous royal tour in the Caribbean... and efforts to rehabilitate Andrew with a front-row appearance at Prince Philip's memorial.

Barbados has done us a big favour

Barbados has really helped the republican movements across the Commonwealth, by showing everyone how simple the change can be, and what the alternative can look like.

Already politicians in the Caribbean and elsewhere are talking about cutting ties with the British monarchy. That move away from the British monarchy has been boosted by the royal tour, when Kate and William's visit to Jamaica, Belize and Bahamas prompted governments and activists to call for an end to the monarchy.

Now Australia has a new government, a republican prime minister and their first minister for the republic.

Changing attitudes

There has been a marked shift in attitudes towards the royals in the UK and across the Commonwealth over the past decade. The royals are increasingly finding it difficult to put a foot right, and they are increasingly showing everyone how irrelevant, out of touch and pointless the monarchy is.

With your help, we can get more people talking about the monarchy and a democratic alternative for Britain.

Now is the time to get ready

2021 was a good year for Republic, as we reached new audiences and made a real impact in challenging the monarchy over their wealth and privilege, their unaccountability and their climate change hypocrisy. We need to do much more!

Republic relies entirely on our members and supporters, people like you who want to see an end to the monarchy. We can do this, with your help!

Bad for Britain, bad for the royals

The 2020s should be the decade when we finally get to decide who we have as our elected head of state. Charles is controversial, outspoken and unpopular. Prince Andrew is a person of interest in a criminal investigation. And Harry and Meghan are showing that monarchy isn't just bad for Britain, it's bad for the royals too.

With your help we can ensure the debate shifts dramatically over the coming months and years. We need to challenge myths about the cost of the royals, the role of the head of state, the role of the royals in the Commonwealth. And we need to show the country there is a simple, democratic alternative to the monarchy.

The monarchy is on collision course with modern British values. It is wrong in principle, wrong in practice and is bad for British politics. Help us get that message out to the whole country.

What's the plan?

In the run up to the coronation of King Charles, we want to be campaigning hard every day. We want to fundamentally change the nature of the debate about the monarchy and boost support for a republic.

Your donation will mean Republic can do more to challenge the coronation and the monarchy, to really create a movement that can bring down the Crown.

Here's what we can do with your support:

  • More media work
  • Rallying commentators, politicians and celebrities to our cause
  • Getting our European republican allies involved in raising the level of debate
  • Organising events and protests in the weeks and months before the coronation
  • Creating more effective social media campaigns
  • More billboards and online advertising, making a clear case for a republic
  • Work on drafting the necessary legislation for becoming a republic, to show how easy it can be.
  • And more!

This appeal will help Republic make bigger and bolder plans.

With your help Republic can do so much more. Thank you!
