The dividing line

We spend a lot of time going over the constitutional arguments for a republic. We explain how the monarchy gives politicians great swathes of unaccountable power, we explain how having a monarchy denies us a head of state who can play a real role in times of political crisis. We argue that anĀ impartial head of state is worthless if we aren’t able to see that they’re being impartial and hold them to account if they’re not.

The Monarchy

This message was sent from Balthasar, via the “I’m a monarchist…” page”

Let’s remember the fates of most republics throughout history, none have lasted longer than 1,000 years unlike the monarchy. Republics leave too much room for a dictator to seize power.

President Tony Blair

This is a contribution from Will, via the “I’m a monarchist…” page

I’m fairly certain that even the staunchest republican could turn into a monarchist if they ever heard these three words: President Tony Blair!
