What we do

Republic is a campaigning pressure group. Everything we do is aimed at persuading ordinary people - and our politicians - to support a democratic alternative to the monarchy.

Our website is just a small part of what we do. We undertake a range of activities on behalf of our members, ensuring the views of republicans are heard.

Our work is divided into five key areas:

Media

  • Representing republicans on television and radio
  • Seeking to raise the level of debate and hold the royals to account through the media
  • Commenting on news stories related to the monarchy and republicanism
  • Contributing articles to newspapers and online magazines

Community

  • Organising seminars and debates for republicans
  • Giving talks to schools, colleges and local groups
  • Promoting local republican activism

Lobbying

  • Working with republican politicians to promote the campaign
  • Seeking wider support in Westminster and the devolved assemblies
  • Putting pressure on government to allow greater scrutiny of the monarchy
  • Arranging for republican MPs to table EDMs and ask questions in Parliament

E-campaigning

  • Sending regular updates and campaign actions to thousands of email subscribers
  • Maintaining a website to provide information on republicanism
  • Co-ordinating republican responses to online articles, polls and debates
  • Building support and activism through Facebook, Twitter and our blog

Development and Membership

  • Promoting membership and growing our supporter base
  • Recruiting high profile and distinguished republicans to back the campaign
  • Running fundraising appeals help Republic grow

As well as pursuing our overall aim of replacing the monarchy with an elected head of state, we also undertake smaller campaigns on specific issues. Such campaigns often give us the chance to work with other groups and organisations, enabling us to share knowledge and expertise.

We work to a long-term strategy with clear targets and milestones. The current focus of our campaign is mobilising Britain's republicans to get actively involved in our campaign by joining, donating or taking action.
