John Campbell was a member of Republic for eight years, from 2002 to 2010, and in that time he made an enormous impact on the campaign. For six of those years he served as Executive Chair, leading us through a period of change and upheaval as we reinvented ourselves as a serious active pressure group. Living in Cardiff, John gave many hours every week to Republic, whether dealing with issues as chair or visiting schools and colleges with his wife, Suzanne, to give talks and lectures on the issue. He was relentlessly optimistic and provided inspiring leadership at a crucial time in our development.
Sadly John died in October last year after a brief fight with cancer. As a tribute to his enormous contribution to the cause Republic's board has decided to launch the Annual John Campbell Lecture, featuring a keynote speaker who will speak on a topic of their choosing relevant to the cause.
As one of our most distinguished and long-serving supporters we are delighted to announce Michael Mansfield QC has accepted our invitation to be our inaugural keynote speaker.
