Republic Lobby

Lobbying politicians is a crucial element of any campaign aimed at changing the constitution. We engage with our supporters and members to encourage them to participate in our lobbying campaigns. Our supporters write to MPs asking them their views on various issues, asking them to back Republic or to sign
Early Day Motions.
It's not just Westminster MPs we lobby, there is also work to be done to win the support of Welsh Assembly Members and members of the Scottish Parliament.
Find out what you can do to help our lobbying campaign
Republic in Westminster
We have the support of a number of
MPs and hold annual parliamentary receptions in Westminster.
Thanks to the excellent work of our supporters we have had Early Day Motions (EDM) signed by MPs of all three main parties. These include an EDM calling for an
alternative oath of allegiance and another calling for the
Duchy of Cornwall to be made more transparent and accountable in its financial management.
Republic in the devolved assemblies
We have the
support of three Welsh Assembly members, Leanne Wood, Bethan Jenkins and John Griffiths. A number of MSPs back Republic, including Roseanne Cunningham, George Foulkes, Linda Fabiani and Sandra White.
Republic Scotland is working on developing further support in the Scottish Parliament and has held a reception there.
Lobbying government
We also lobby government ministers and the Prime Minister, either through letter writing or petitions. We have posted a number of petitions on the
Downing Street website.
