Gift in your will

By leaving a gift to Republic in your will, you can ensure your commitment to democracy lives on. A legacy gift costs nothing in your lifetime but will make a real and lasting difference to what we can achieve.

There are three main ways to give to Republic in your will:

  • a pecuniary legacy (a fixed amount of money)
  • a residuary legacy (a share, or the whole, of what is left of your estate once you have provided for your loved ones)
  • a specific legacy (something other than money, e.g. property, stocks and shares, a car, furniture, or jewellery)

We strongly advise that you use a solicitor to prepare or amend your will. You can find local solicitors in the Yellow Pages or by using the Law Society's Find a Solicitor service.

To make a bequest to Republic, you need to state our details accurately to your solicitor. Below is our official registered name, address and number.

Republic Campaign Ltd (a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee) Registered number 05891072
Suite 14040
145-157 St John Street
London EC1V 4PY

If you are considering including a legacy to Republic in your will or a codicil (a legal document adding to, or changing, an existing will), you and your solicitor may find the following wording useful, starting with:

"I give to Republic Campaign Ltd of Suite 14040, 145-157 St John Street, London EC1V 4PY(registered number 05891072) ..."

If you wish to leave Republic a residuary legacy, use the following wording, and state the percentage you wish Republic to receive:

"___ % of the residue of my estate absolutely and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer, or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees. I further declare that if at my death Republic Campaign Ltd has ceased to exist or has amalgamated with another organisation or has changed its name this gift shall not fail but my trustees shall pay it to the organisation which they consider most nearly fulfils the objects that I intended to benefit."

If you wish to give Republic a pecuniary legacy, use the following wording and state the amount you wish Republic to receive:

"...the sum of £______ absolutely and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer, or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees. I further declare that if at my death Republic Campaign Ltd has ceased to exist or has amalgamated with another organisation or has changed its name this gift shall not fail but my trustees shall pay it to the organisation which they consider most nearly fulfils the objects that I intended to benefit."

If you would like to leave Republic something other than money, please describe the items as fully as possible.

Please note: The wording in this section is only a guide and the legal advice of a solicitor should always be sought when making or updating your will.

If you do decide to make a bequest to Republic please tell us about it so that we can better plan for the future.
